Recently, on several different occasions and totally different people, I have been told I was glowing.  I laughed it off and swore it was my tan.   (A good tan can give you a glow.) I was baffled because I had heard this from several sources but what did it mean.  I know, why can’t you take a compliment and keep it moving.  Sigh…

Anyone that knows me, knows I love to put together an outfit and snap a picture.  I often say that when you look good, you feel good and why not capture the moment.  But where did this come from?  Perhaps I felt good for the moment but was I really feeling good or just had a well-put-together outfit?  Never did I stop to ask myself…How was my spirit feeling?  How was my energy level?

I come from a culture where people were defined by how they looked, which equated to how they dressed.  Of course, you had to have on your best on Sundays.  Don’t let It be a holiday, graduation or special event, there would definitely be a new outfit.  Back in the day, the sign of a prosperous man was how well his wife and children were dressed.     In general, black people took pride in looking good and being well dressed, especially in their Sunday Best.  I still stop to ask myself, is that it?

I remember making the statement one day, when asked, what is that I like?  I like beautiful things but not just to cover up what is broken but I like it to be whole.  I am well aware; beauty and brokenness are in the eye of the beholder.  I’ve learned over the years that it’s not all about the cutest outfit, designer bag or the most fly pair of shoes.  An internal check-in makes all the difference in the world.

So, today I embrace my glow.  I’m doing the work and God does the rest.  Self-care check-ins often, along with daily wellness care daily. I’ve worked for this glow.  I own it.  **blushing** When I feel good, I look good.

I am thankful to wear my Sunday Best.

How are you wearing your Sunday Best?  Are you doing the inner work?
